And here’s what’s new at the gardens:
MUMS – Did I mention they are in? Beautiful colors and most are winter hardy to our yards. Rose Blush, Yellows, Whites, Burgundy, Purple, Orange and Bronze. So many colors you will want to take advantage of the buy 3 for $21.
TERRA COTTA PUMPKINS in four sizes and shapes; Cute and perfect for the table or desk. From $3.75.
PERENNIALS planted this time of the year are greeted with warm soil temperatures and usually more moisture and low evaporation. You should stop fertilizing any perennials with a nitrogen high number after Labor Day. The plants established in the fall provide successful blooms and healthy plants for years to come: New Hostas: including Komodo Dragon that gets up to 7’ wide at maturity, Stained Glass, Twist of Lime, Hanky Panky and Faith. Three mini (under 7”) perfect for edging. Coral Bells: Caramel (stunning), Miracle, Tiramisu and Pinot Gris. Liguria ‘Otis Fanastisie’ – excellent for shade or rain gardens. Beautiful foliage all year with a daisy-like flower in the June/July. Astible: Delft Lace (tall and pink) Rock and Roll (white) and Visions in Red (purplish red). Really too many to list here – besides, Dick says you won’t read all this detail. If you do? – be sure to mention that to one of us.
GLASS GLOBE RAIN GAUGES have finally arrived. Available in red, green, blue and amber globes, with the large glass gauge; a great gift, or addition to the landscape. Functional and smart: remove the gauge for winter and add greens, bittersweet or twigs and seasonal bow.
FRESH WAVE SOY CANDLES and Odor Neutralizing Crystals: The all natural soy candles are perfect for travel – remove the odors of a stale hotel room. Or use it in the kitchen for eliminating the odors of cooking fish or other aromatic foods that linger a bit too long. Made in the USA, with natural extracts of lime, pine needle, aniseed, clove, cedarwood and soya the FRESH WAVE products are designed to eliminate, not cover up, odors. The crystals come in a jar you can uncap to remove odors from a closet, home or RV. The 16 oz jar works for up to 90 days continuous, longer if you cap and uncap as needed. I’m very excited about these non-toxic, biodegradable products.
CATTAIL LANTERN by Garden Delights Amber colored glass designed as a cattail on a garden stake. Uses regular lamp oil and looks beautiful day or evening, an attractive addition to your entrance or patio.
AFTER A TRIP TO MICHIGAN AND ILLINOIS, we have great photos of new flowers for next year! I was so thrilled to go through one of my suppliers of annuals and perennials, one day after a thunderstorm; we have many photos of the baskets and containers that can take the weather!
MEMORIAL PLANTERS 2010: We will be planting and placing memorial pots at area cemeteries. We can pick them up this fall, store over winter, plant them in April and place them next May. If you are interested in a quote for any part of the memorial planter service, let us now.
FARMERS’ MARKET runs Fridays 3-7 p.m. through Halloween.
REMEMBER WE SELL fresh cut Christmas trees, hand tied roping, wreaths and kissing balls. (We will be having a class – sign up at the gardens if you are interested in learning to create your own kissing ball.)
STOP IN & MEET ZEUS. If you don’t prefer cats, its okay, we don’t either. He’s no Duke, but he’s adorable and learning to sit and shake. We’ll put him in his kennel if you let us know your aversion to cats. Hope to see you soon!
